Overwhelming wardrobe that takes too much attention (e.g. oversized patterns, chunky knits, oversized garments)

Styling principles
DO
-
Tucking in the t-shirt brings a bit of interest to the outfit
-
Adding a belt that matches well enhances the outfit
-
Well used tone-on-tone approach
-
Shoes are black which is nice as it breaks it up a bit
-
By adding jewelry such as a small ring brings personality
DON'T
-
The colours do not work well together
-
Avoid preppy look
DO
-
Tucking in the side of the shirt adds more shape and an interesting look to the outfit
-
Adding a belt gives a bit of personality
-
The leather shorts and high boots give this outfit the right amount of edginess
-
Included jewelry that is a bit unexpected
DON'T
-
The outfit looses a bit of edge when not adding the tuck.
-
By not seeing the belt the outfit feels not finished
Wardrobe examples
DO
-
Tucking in the wool sweater for a bit more edge
-
Leather pants make the outfit more dressy as the top garment is a more laid-back wool sweater
-
The white shoes give a nice contrast and break the outfit up a bit
-
Add accessories when natural
-
The bag & earrings give a bit of a colour pop but do not overpower the rest of the outfit nor take too much focus away from key garments or the talent
DON'T
-
The outfit looses a bit of an edge when not adding the tuck
-
Avoid styling that becomes too ordinary/bland
-
Adding jeans makes this outfit too laid-back. With two garments that are more relaxed, we loose the edginess
-
Not using any accessories makes it a bit bland
DO
-
Well used tone-on-tone approach
-
For accessories – a small ring is enough as the outfit and talent have a strong look together
-
The outfit is quite minimal but in this case when the talent has a very interesting look, it makes for a good balance
DON'T
-
Becomes too excessive with adding the necklace.
-
When the shirt is not tucked in, it becomes a bit shapeless. Avoid this kind of feeling in styling
-
Avoid too contrasting colours on the garments, go more with tone-on-tone. If you want to add contrast (for edginess) you can do so with accessories, e.g. socks, jewelry, shoes, etc.
DO
-
Patterns on garments are OK if it’s subtle (like in this case)
-
The undershirt gives a small contrast which in this case brings a bit of edge
-
Use sneakers that don’t show any strong branding (e.g. Nike logo)
DON'T
-
The jacket does not match well with the rest of the style
-
Imbalance in colours between the garments
-
The jacket button makes this outfit too uptight
-
Avoid the feeling of preppiness
-
Too contrasting in colours
-
The clash of sporty top and chinos does not make this outfit look premium
