Technical requirements

Formats and aspect ratios

  • The master images should be delivered always in a 4:3 landscape format if not specified differently for each of the asset types. Please consider 2D pictures section in these guidelines

  • The master images should be delivered with a minimum height of 3508 pixels with the exception of in-situ images where the minimum height is 7016 pixels

  • Image resolution should be 300 PPI/DPI

  • The master images should be always delivered in RGB color mode with the color profile of ADOBE RGB 1998 and with the color depth of 8 bits

  • File format: TIFF

  • Specific considerations can be found in individual Asset types

Sourcing files and localization considerations

  • If the master image contains any OST / OSG elements, the agency has to deliver a TIFF master file with layers where OST and OSG are placed on separate layers and grouped into respective folders

  • Please see the image on the right on how the layer structure should be implemented in the file

  • We always upload one master file on EML containing all the required layers. Based on this master image file, all other subformats (JPG, PNG, … ) are automatically generated.

  • Don’t create 2 EML references for the same image (e.g. one with and one without layers)

Clipping paths

  • All 2DP Benefit image asset types need to have clipping paths included. A total of 5 different clipping paths is required, each in the exact same aspect ratio (not size!) and with the exact same name as below:

  • 16:9 (1920x1080)

  • 16:9 (1152x648)

  • 29:17 (957x561)

  • 3:2 (900x600)

  • 1:1 (1200x1200)

  • IMPORTANT: this exact nomenclature has to be respected, otherwise EML will not be able to generate sub-formats.

  • Considerations when placing clipping paths:

  • Place clipping paths in a way that the most important parts of the image are always included. This does not necessarily mean the clipping paths need to be centered.

  • If some important areas of the image get cropped by some clipping paths, explore if it isn't possible to do a quick layout adjustment to include these parts.

  • In some very rare cases, it is acceptable that the image will work only in a 4:3 aspect ratio.

Usage rights

We must always have a clear statement of the usage rights for every asset. Use the following checklist to ensure your usage rights statement includes all the information required.

  • Medias: For online and instore (excluding broadcasting)

  • Territory: all

  • Picture License period: 5 years (starting from the first usage of the asset)

  • Applies to both talents and agency rights

EML distribution

The usual workflow is that the agency provides master files and the producer shares a specific briefing import with the EML team, which then imports the asset into EML.
