LIGHTING PRINCIPLES

The use of light is one of the most important

considerations when creating the AEG sophisticated and contemporary look and feel. We are moving away from a monochromatic studio lighting to a more refined style that feels more grounded in reality yet retains its finesse and edginess:

Use soft natural light that doesn't feel staged (1)
Subtle contrast between light and shade (2)
Subtle accents of warm and cold colour temperatures (3), achieved by distinct spotlights
Use light and shadow to catch attention and guide the viewer's eye
Link the outdoors through light and shadows (4)
When filming in a studio consider the use of a photographic backdrop behind windows to further link the exterior to the indoors. Use curtains to blend the outdoors better (5)
Cast reflections on product surfaces to make the connection with the surroundings
Reflections should feel natural and not be overbearing
Displays should always be well defined and clearly visible.

The above-mentioned principles apply to close-to-product communication. Please note that campaign communication utilizes a more bold, high-contrast and vivid lighting style.
